Pathways Storytellers

A fun, inclusive group program to build foundational skills for a lifelong enjoyment of reading, writing, storytelling, and language.

Looking for an inclusive space for your child to build the exact skills they need?

You are looking for a group program that both welcomes and accepts your child AND that can help your child to enhance their foundational skills for storytelling and language. This isn’t your typical “reading program;” Pathways Storytellers will help support skill development around narrative skills, such as retelling stories, sequencing, finding the plot, understanding the story, and phonological awareness (pre-reading skills) while honouring each child’s differences in learning. Your child will experience creative and engaging activities all while growing their language and literacy skills!

If you want your child to be successful and confident in these foundational skills, while being supported in their interests and accepted for who they are, our Pathways Storytellers Program is what you are looking for!

This group is facilitated by a Speech-Language Pathologist and a Specialized Teacher and together, they will support your child’s language and literacy development through neurodiversity affirming practices.

What this program will build in your child:

Pathways Storytellers is a multi-week group program led by a Registered Speech-Language Pathologist and Specialized Teacher, and is designed to offer kids a safe and inclusive space to be themselves while also building foundational literacy skills. Core skills targeted over the program are:

  • Narrative language

  • Sequencing

  • Identifying the plot and main events of the story

  • Re-telling stories

  • Story comprehension

This group is led by a neurodiversity-affirming therapist and teacher using philosophies and methods that support, understand, and accept neurodivergent children within a safe and inclusive space.

Who Should Attend Pathways’ Storytellers?

We want every child to be safe and successful.
Please review the registration criteria below before signing up.

Your child is an ideal fit if they meet all of the following:

  • Age/Level: Is 6–9 years old (or at a Grade 1–3 developmental/educational level).

  • Social Interest: Enjoys participating in group environments like organized activities, sports, and recess.

  • Goal: Would benefit from targeted support in both their communication and literacy development.

  • Communication: Can effectively communicate (verbally or via AAC/augmentative modalities) to follow along, engage in group activities, and express their needs.

  • Group Safety: Can thrive safely in a group with a 1:4 adult-to-child ratio. The child must not become aggressive, highly dysregulated, or disruptive, as 1:1 support is not available.

Important Note: To ensure the safety and success of all participants, we reserve the right to remove any child from the program who does not meet these participation or safety requirements. Removals are non-refundable.

If you are unsure if your child meets this criteria, unsure if your child is ready for a group program, unsure about your child’s support needs, it is impossible for our Intake Team to decide this for you without knowing your child. If your child is currently a client at Pathways, please discuss group programs with your child’s clinician(s). If you are NEW to our clinic, it may be best to book an Initial Consultation with a SLP, OT, or Parent Coach to gain a clearer understanding of your child’s readiness.
