Neurodiversity-Affirming and Trauma-Informed Nutrition Support for ALL Ages

At Pathways, we are committed to implementing neurodiversity-affirming, evidence-based, family-centred services to meet your individual needs. We recognize each client is unique and value partnering with families to develop highly individualized nutrition support programs.

Our approach strictly departs from traditional compliance-based "feeding therapy" or rigid "picky eating" treatment angles that emphasize force, masking, or behavioural manipulation. Instead, we embrace contemporary, neurodiversity-affirming safe and responsive feeding practices. We prioritize nervous system regulation, sensory safety, autonomic comfort, and respecting an individual's unique interoceptive awareness. Our primary goal is always to build safe, comfortable, and autonomous access to nutrition from a deeply affirming lens.

How We Support Nutrition & Feeding in Regina, Saskatchewan:

Areas of Focus & Expertise:

  • ARFID (Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder) Support: Navigating the sensory-based, fear-of-aversion, or low-interest profiles of eating with a focus on felt safety and reducing mealtime anxiety.

  • Sensory-Safe Nutrition & Exploration: Understanding and honoring a child’s unique sensory profile (textures, smells, visual presentation, temperatures) without requiring them to mask or push past their comfort thresholds.

  • Responsive Feeding & Meal Planning: Collaborating with families to structure low-pressure, supportive meal environments and meal plans that take the executive dysfunction and stress out of feeding.

  • Interoception & Autonomy: Helping parents learn to read their child's internal cues and body language around fullness, hunger, and sensory overwhelm to promote somatic trust.

  • Parent Consultation & Coaching: Giving parents actionable, validating strategies to reduce mealtime power struggles, navigate dietary limitations safely, and advocate for their child's unique eating profile.

Virtual & Remote Services

To provide the highest level of comfort and flexibility for neurodivergent families, we offer comprehensive online coaching and consultation. Virtual services allow us to evaluate and strategize right from the heart of your home environment, where mealtimes actually happen, without the added dysregulation or anxiety of traveling to a clinic.

  • Virtual Parent & Caregiver Consultations: Collaborative sessions focused on deep-diving into your family's unique mealtime dynamics, reviewing sensory profiles, and building custom, low-pressure meal planning strategies.

  • Virtual Meal Observations: Using a discreet, "fly-on-the-wall" camera setup in your kitchen or dining space, our coach can observe a typical family mealtime in real-time. This allows us to assess environmental stressors, sensory triggers, and interaction patterns naturally, without a stranger's physical presence altering your child's comfort or behaviour.

Home-Based Services

For families located within our service area who require a higher level of hands-on, real-world support, we offer direct home-based visits to meet you and your child exactly where you are.

  • In-Home Meal Observations: Our coach joins your family during a regularly scheduled snack or mealtime to observe your child’s somatic cues, sensory responses, and environmental setup firsthand, offering immediate, gentle adjustments to foster a more regulated eating space.

  • In-Home Feeding Support & Side-by-Side Coaching: These sessions provide real-time, in-the-moment guidance for parents during the actual preparation or execution of a meal. We work alongside you to co-regulate with your child, help you read and honour their subtle interoceptive cues, and model neurodiversity-affirming, responsive feeding invitations in your own kitchen.

Available Services & Fees:

Initial Assessment / Re-Assessment Consultation (60-minutes / $210, includes summary report)

An Initial Assessment/Consultation involves a 60-minute appointment and includes a written summary of the consultation provided in a formal report. The appointment will begin with an in-depth discussion with the parent(s)/caregivers to obtain a detailed developmental history, sensory overview, and identify all areas of concern. Together, we will look at mealtime dynamics through a neurodiversity-affirming lens to map out a clear path forward that honours your child's safety and boundaries.

Re-Assessment Consultations may be required, at the coach's discretion, for clients who have not been seen within the past four months due to the dynamic nature of childhood development and changing nutritional profiles.

Support & Intervention Sessions (50-minutes / $150 or 30-minutes / $90)

Nutrition coaching sessions are tailored completely to your child and your family. Rather than forcing direct "exposure" to feared foods, these sessions are structured to cultivate felt safety, reduce autonomic stress, and support expansion at the child's own pace. Aside from virtual parent coaching or interactive feeding support sessions, recommendations may include individualized home programming, responsive mealtime adaptations, and collaborative resource sharing.
